BNP reserved-seat lawmaker Ferdousy Ahmed Mishti has been ordered to resign from parliament over the attack, looting and vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur, according to a high-level government source.
The source said Mishti had been instructed to resign from parliament by Sunday.
Prime Minister's Press Secretary Abu Abdullah M Saleh confirmed the matter to bdnews24.com.
Mishti could not be reached for comment despite attempts to contact her.
Chief Whip Nurul Islam said he was not officially aware of any such instruction.
“I don't know. I am not officially aware of it,” he told bdnews24.com.
Asked whether Mishti had submitted her resignation, the Speaker's office at the parliament secretariat said it had not yet received any resignation letter or official information on the matter.
The attack, looting and vandalism took place around midnight on Sept 24 at the Radda MCH-FP Centre in Mirpur-1. The health centre's premises were subsequently demolished.
The names of several local BNP and affiliated organisation leaders have emerged in connection with the incident.
Allegations have also been made against Mishti, though she has denied any involvement.
She has also said she has no current association with the Somomona Dokandar Samabaya Samity Limited, a group of like-minded shopkeepers involved in a dispute over the land where the Radda centre stands.
An investigation into allegations of Mishti's involvement in the Radda incident is under way.
On Wednesday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said at the Secretariat that no one would be spared if the investigation found evidence of anyone's involvement.
Meanwhile, the 51-member convening committee of Dhaka North BNP was dissolved on Wednesday night.
The committees of Dhaka North Jubo Dal and Dhaka West Chhatra Dal were also dissolved the same day.
Fourteen leaders at different levels of the BNP and its affiliated organisations were expelled.
However, the notices announcing those decisions did not mention the Radda incident.
The committees of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal were dissolved on the grounds that their terms had expired.
Mishti was a joint convenor of Dhaka North BNP. She is the younger sister of late BNP leader Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu.
Her late husband Saidur Rahman Newton was also involved in BNP politics.
He was a councillor of a ward in Dhaka.
After his death, Mishti was elected councillor of the same ward.
