“We will walk with our head held high,” the prime minister said at the 37th National Council of the Ansar-VDP on Sunday. “This is why we have to be independent.”
Hasina stressed the importance of training to the paramilitary forces during her speech at the Ansar-VDP Academy in Gazipur’s Sofipur.
“Your training is not only for yourselves, it is also for the inspiring others. Through your help, they will gain self-respect and dignity.”
The prime minister said she has already ordered Ansar-VDP to get involved in the One House One Farm Project.
“If you, with your training, become involved, I believe Bangladesh can quickly free itself from poverty,” she said.
Hasina also described the need for vocational and technical training to develop youth productivity as a task for the paramilitary forces.
“The forces are providing quality training to achieve the expectations of the new generation and are contributing to the fight against unemployment in the country.”
The paramilitary forces are driving ‘great change’ throughout the country by creating income generating activities which improve self-sufficiency, she said.
The prime minister praised the Ansar-VDPO Development Bank Project in particular, saying it was alleviating poverty through training, skill development and loan provision.
Hasina also called upon her audience to help raise awareness against terrorism, militancy and drug use.
“You must also help ensure our children do not become involved with drugs, militancy or terrorism. We hope you can create awareness on these issues and maintain peace and security.”
The prime minister was greeted by Ansar-VDP Forces Director General Maj Gen Mizanur Rahman Khan and Parade Commandant Ansar-VDP Forces Director Mohammad Fakhrul Islam during the event.
She was also joined by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and local MPs.
A parade was held in the prime minister’s honour during the event.
