Dhaka, July 25 (bdnews24.com) – The Indian National Congress president has left Dhaka for New Delhi after a whirlwind 24 hours in the Bangladeshi capital.
The flight carrying Sonia flew from the Shahjalal International Airport around 9:20pm on Monday, public relation officer of the foreign ministry Mohammad Monirul Islam told bdnews24.com.
Foreign minister Dipu Moni, LGRD minister Syed Ashraful Islam and state minister for liberation war affairs Tajul Islam saw her off at the airport.
Earlier in the day, Sonia received the Swadhinata Sommanona (Bangladesh Freedom Honour)—the highest civilian award for foreigners—on behalf of late Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi from president Zillur Rahman for the assassinated leader's crucial role in the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
Sonia came to Dhaka on a special invitation to inaugurate an international conference on autism.
During her visit, Sonia, chairperson of India's ruling United Progressive Alliance, she also sat with Hasina.
