Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan urges workers to be vigilant against radicals

Rattled by frequent assassinations by suspected Islamist militants, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan has called upon workers to step up vigil against rising radicalism.

Addressing a May Day rally in Dhaka, he said that the workers should unite to fight rising extremism that was responsible for the recent killings.

“The defeated forces of 1971 have started to hit back at a time, when the labour force is working day and night to take the country forward.”

Describing the Awami League-led administration as a ‘government for the workers’, Khan said that their wages have been reviewed twice during the regime.

The historic May Day in being observed in the country along with the rest of the world on Sunday with the pledge to strive for workers’ rights.

In Bangladesh, the day is a public holiday. All offices, banks, industries and factories are remained closed.
