Rajshahi, May 16 (BDNEWS) – The syndicate meeting of Rajshahi University was postponed as threats from the pro-Jamaat teachers became high.
The meeting was scheduled for May 16, Tuesday.
Sources said, pro-Jamaat teachers threatened to boycott the syndicate meeting over appointment of a teacher from Jamaat lobby in the department of law.
The meeting was scheduled to discuss the agenda of permanently appointing six teachers as lecturers, sources added.
Since the selection board dropped the pro-Jamaat teacher from the list, grievances brewed among the Jamaat leaning teachers and they began putting pressure on the vice-chancellor for another meeting aiming to include the pro-Jamaat candidate.
While the VC was preparing to call a meeting discarding the pressure of the Jamaat backed teachers, it pledged to foil the meeting at any cost.
Meanwhile they warned the university authorities that if their demand were not met, they would stop all sorts of appointments in the faculty.
Following such fiasco, the VC postponed the syndicate meeting.
VC Professor M Altaf Hossain admitted authenticity of the fact, but said ' the meeting was postponed over unavoidable circumstances.'
But in an earlier conversation with the newsmen, the VC admitted that Jamaat backed teachers threatened to foil the meeting and that is why the syndicate meeting was put off.
