3 die as one bus rear-ends another on expressway in Madaripur

Three people have been killed after a bus crashed into another bus that had broken down on the road in Madaripur’s Shibchar.

Witnesses say at least 10 others have been injured in the accident, which occurred near Pacchar of the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway around 4pm on Friday.

Shibchar Highway Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Muntasir Rahman said, “We went to the scene and recovered three bodies after the incident was reported.”

Police have yet to confirm the names and identities of the dead, but law enforcers are working on the matter, he said.

Police and locals say a “Palki Paribahan” bus headed from Khulna to Dhaka broke down in the Bakhrerkandi area next to Pacchar due to a technical fault. A Dhaka-bound “Hanif Paribahan” bus crashed into the back of the vehicle as it was stranded on the road.

Three passengers on the “Palki Paribahan” bus were killed on the spot and at least 10 other passengers on both vehicles were seriously injured. The injured were then rescued and are receiving treatment at local hospitals.
