Prof Yusuf Ali to serve as acting chairman of UGC

Dr Mohammad Yusuf Ali Mollah, a former dean of Dhaka University’s science faculty, has assumed the post of chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.

He took up the post on Wednesday in accordance with the instructions of the education ministry, the UGC announced in a press release.

Dr Yusuf, currently a professor of the Chemistry Department at University of Dhaka, replaces Prof Abdul Mannan, whose tenure ended on May 7. Prof Mannan had served as chairman for the last four years following his appointment in 2015.

Yusuf has been serving the commission as a full-time since May 28, 2015.

He will remain in the post until the appointment of new chairman.
