The inaugural ceremony for the Satrasta-Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital portion will be held at Officers' Club in the city.

The 8.25-kilometre flyover is being constructed in three parts -- from Holy Family hospital to Tejgaon; Kakrail to Rampura, and Mouchak to Banglamotor.

Once completed, this is seen as capable of easing traffic between Northern and Southern Dhaka.

The distance from Satrasta (Tejgaon) to Holy Family hospital at Ramna is 2.11km. The project work, which was scheduled to be completed within December 2015, started in 2013 instead of the original schedule of 2011.

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) first approved the project involving Tk 7.72 billion on Mar 8, 2011.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stone on Feb 16, 2013.

In January, Ecnec extended the Moghbazar-Mouchak Flyover Project by 18 months and revised the expenditure by around Tk 4.47 billion, raising the overall project cost to Tk 12.19 billion.

The time frame of the project has been extended because the length of the flyover has been increased after the structure was redesigned.

"Finally the first phase of the flyover is ready for use. The prime minister will inaugurate it at 10:30am," LGRD executive engineer Nazmul Alam told bdnews24.com.

He claimed work on the rest of the flyover was also proceeding 'at great speed'. "The ramp from Hatirjheel to FDC will also be completed soon."

"Seventy percent of the work on the whole project is finished. We intend to finish the flyover in three phases. The Banglamotor-Mouchak portion will be opened in June. And the rest should be opened by December," said Alam.
