President, prime minister mourn Narayanganj stampede deaths

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have mourned the casualties at the Hindu holy bath site in Narayanganj.

They offered condolence to the bereaved families in separate statements on Friday.

Hamid called for swift treatment of the injured.

Ten people, mostly women, were killed and at least 20 others injured in a stampede at Langalbandh on Friday morning.

Locals and devotees say a rumour that a bridge had collapsed triggered panic, leading to the stampede.
