Dhaka, Sept 15 (BDNEWS) - A student strike in the educational institutions across the country was observed Thursday in a lacklustre mood at the call of an alliance of seven opposition student organisations.
The alliance, Santrash o Sampradayeekata Birodhi Chhatra Jote, led by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of main opposition Awami League, called the strike protesting the price hike of education materials and fuel oil.
The alliance also demanded punishment to the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) cadres involved in attacking their rally on September 11 last year and publication of the probe report in this regard.
No classes were held at the Dhaka University during the strike. All examinations scheduled for the day were postponed.
Classes in most educational institutions were suspended following the strike. But some English medium schools continued their activities as usual.
The alliance brought out a procession on the DU campus and held a rally in front of the Arts building.
BCL president Liakat Sikder, general secretary Nazrul Islam Babu, Balaram Poddar, Rafiqul Islam Kotwal, Saifuzzaman Shikhor, Chhatra League (JSD) president Shariful Kabir Swapan and other alliance leaders were present at the meeting.
