National University VC Harun-or-Rashid faces rule for contempt of court

The High Court has issued a rule against the vice-chancellor of National University, asking why he should not face legal action for contempt of court.

Prof Dr Harun-or-Rashid has been accused of violating a High Court order by not paying due wages and allowances to Hafizur Rahman, a lecturer of the university.

Hafizur Rahman filed the petition on Jun 4 on which Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Ashish Ranjan Das issued the rule on Tuesday.

Prof Harun will have to come up with explanations within two weeks, said Advocate Abdur Rob Chowdhury, who argued for the petitioner.

In 2016, the High Court ordered VC Rashid to clear wages and allowances of lecturer Md Hafizur Rahman as per the National Payscale of 1997, 2005, 2009 and 2015.
