Nahid says steps over Narayanganj teacher’s public humiliation after completion of probe

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid has condemned the incident of publicly humiliating a school principal in Narayanganj.

He has said that the next course of action will be decided after the inquiry into the incident completes.

 

“It’s very unfortunate. I will gather more information on it. Whatever measures need to be taken, will be done,” he told reporters at his office on Monday.

 

Shyamal Kanti Bhakta of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Bandar Upazila says the locals were provoked by the false accusations of him making disparaging statements about Islam.

 

Bhakta was rescued by police after he was beaten up and made to do sit-ups holding ears in the presence of MP AKM Salim Osman on Friday.

 

The MP claimed that the punishment was the only way to save the teacher from the wrath of the mob.

 

“This is not acceptable at all, we are embarrassed over the matter,” Nahid said while speaking to the media.

The local administration has opened an inquiry into the matter.
