Lucky Akhand is dead

His body will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar for people to pay their last respects after a namaz-e-janaza at the ground adjacent to Armanitola Jame Masjid at 10am on Saturday.

He will be given a guard of honour at the Shaheed Minar, said Ershadul Haque Tinku, a person close to the artiste.

Tinku said Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annusul Huq had confirmed to Akhand’s family that the artiste would be laid to rest with state honours.

Lyricist Asif Iqbal, on behalf of the family, told bdnews24.com that the body would be kept at BIRDEM Hospital mortuary for the night.

It will be kept at the Shaheed Minar from 11:30am to 12:30pm.

Akhand will be buried at Mirpur Intellectuals' Graveyard after another janaza at Dhaka University Central Mosque following Zuhr prayers.

At a press briefing on behalf of the family, the artiste's nephew Dip Akhand urged everyone  to pray for the departed soul of the artist.
