Bobby Hajjaj’s accusation came a day after the Customs Intelligence officials seized a luxury vehicle belonging to his father for ‘tax evasion.’

The Range Rover SUV was taken away from a house in Dhanmondi on Tuesday following the day-long drama, Moinul Khan, head of Customs Intelligence, told bdnews24.com.

The Dhanmondi house belongs to lawyer Bobby’s father-in-law Barrister Akhtar Imam.

Bobby was the advisor of Jatiya Paty chief HM Ershad. He is currently trying to launch a political party called “Jatiyatabadi Ganatantrik Dal”.

In a statement, Bobby said, “We witnessed in the past that people were harassed or malign for political reasons. When the national democratic movement is spreading to the roots level, my family is being maligned.”

He mentioned the Nobel laureate, freedom fighters, politicians and businessmen were subjected to such ‘humiliations.’

On Tuesday, when the vehicle was seized it was in black colour, but the registration document said its body is white.

Detectives said it was also registered using false import papers.

"The car's papers show that it was registered from Bhola after payment of 130 percent duty on Dec 13, 2011. The number for the bill of entry at Chittagong Customs House is written as 1045911. But we realised it was fake after searching records at Chittagong Customs House," said Customs Intelligence chief Moinul.

The vehicle was registered under the name of one Farukuzzaman from Pabna, Bhola BRTA offices told customs.

The car was being personally used by Moosa who made his fortunes from manpower business and other businesses abroad.

The businessman would be facing charges of money laundering to be filed with Chittagong Customs House as well as for evasion of duty, said the customs chief at a press conference.

The DATCO chairman Moosa is an in-law of ruling Awami League Presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim.

There are allegations of 1971 war crimes against Moosa from his area in Faridpur, which he denied.
