Chuadanga, Dec 8 (bdnews24.com)-- Chief of Mokam Bahini of Purba Banglar Communist Party (Janajuddha) Mokam Ali has been killed in what the Rapid Action Battalion said a gunfight with them in the district's Alamdanga area.
The man who is popularly known as Moka was the leader of the banned group, which actually extorts money from wealthy people or is engaged in kidnapping and smuggling, police say.
The group officially follows Maoism, a communist doctrine of Chinese revolutionary leader Mao Zedong. But criminal activities have made the group notorious.
Camp commander of Chuadanga RAB-6 Hasanur Rahman told bdnews24.com on Thursday that they acted on information that Moka and his group members were holding a secret meeting at a brickfield at Jamuna Math area.
Rahman said a RAB team went to the scene around 10.40pm on Wednesday but Mokam and his people opened fire at them sensing their presence.
He said the battalion members retaliated and the firefight lasted around 15 minutes.
RAB recovered the body of Mokam along with two pistols, one magazine, one shutter gun, two cartridges and a knife from the spot, added Rahman.
Mokam, son of late Elahi Malitha of Bhodua village, is known as one of the top terrors and kidnappers in the district. There are eight cases against him including five for murder, he said.
His body has been sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital for autopsy, Alamdanga police station chief Motiar Rahman said.
