MM Ruhul Amin to be CJ from June 1

Senior Appellate Division judge MM Ruhul Amin will take up his post as the next chief justice from June 1, an official at the president's office said Sunday.

Dhaka, May 25 (bdnews24.com) – Senior Appellate Division judge MM Ruhul Amin will take up his post as the next chief justice from June 1, an official at the president's office said Sunday.
President Iajuddin Ahmed finalised his appointment as the 16th chief justice of Bangladesh, secretary to the president's office Sirajul Islam told bdnews24.com.
MM Ruhul Amin, the second most senior judge of the Appellate Division, was appointed on July 13, 2003.
He will take oath as chief justice on June 1, Supreme Court registrar Iktedar Ahmed told bdnews24.com.
Present CJ Md Ruhul Amin will end his term on May 31.
MM Ruhul Amin has been working as chairman of the Judicial Service Commission from 2004.
Amin obtained a masters' degree in history in 1963 and a LLB degree in 1966 from Dhaka University. In 1967, he started work as assistant judge in the erstwhile East Pakistan.
He was promoted to district judge in 1984. Before being appointed as High Court judge on Feb 10, 1994, he served courts in Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Kishoreganj and Jessore as district judge.
In 1990, Amin took training in "case management" at National Judicial College in the US and visited several US courts to learn about alternative dispute resolution and court administration.
Besides, he visited Sri Lank, India and Nepal to see their judicial services and salary structure of judges.
Amin was born in Laxmipur in 1942.
