The government banned Hilsha catching between Sep 25 and Oct 9 that coincided with the spawning season.
Fishing trawlers started looking for Hilsha on the Meghna River since Friday midnight, immediately after the ban was over.
The ban is being imposed during this time every year to allow for proper breeding that would boost production.
Meanwhile, 291 fishermen were detained in Chandpur for catching Hilsha during the ban, said authorities.
