Convict Sohrab Hossain is an assistant teacher at the Upazila’s Uchna Dhakhil Madrasa.

Executive Magistrate Noor Uddin Al-Faruk, also the Upazila Executive Officer, gave the order on Thursday.

In addition, the teacher was fined Tk 5,000. His jail term will be extended by another month if fails to pay up.

Faruk told bdnews24.com that Hossain had behaved ‘indecently’ with the seventh-grader while on invigilation during the half-yearly examinations on Thursday.

Locals besieged the madrasa, demanding punishment for the teacher after the student informed her guardians of the matter, he said.

The Upazila executive officer, Female Vice-Chairman Doulatun Nesa Dolon and Panchbibi Police Station Inspector Farid Hossain rushed to the madrasa on learning of the incident.

The mobile court passed the sentence, as statements of the witnesses substantiated the allegation.
