Chittagong, April 10 (BDNEWS) – The Chittagong District Bar Association, which is boycotting the court of district and session judge Abdul Gafur, on Monday called upon the government to withdraw him immediately.
The district and sessions judge, soon after assuming office in Chittagong, introduced several rules, including the rescheduling of court timing, which annoyed the lawyers.
The Bar Association leaders at a press conference held at the court building bar library alleged that unanimous decisions on various issue by the district and sessions judge ignoring the lawyers deteriorated the relationship between the lawyers and the court.
The association which started boycotting the court since April 3 in its extended general meeting decided to continue boycott of the court till his withdrawal, General Secretary of the Association Ratan Kumar Roy told the press conference.
President of the association Mohammad Khairul Islam, former presidents Ferdous Ahmed and Saleh Jahur and other senior lawyers also spoke on the occasion.
They alleged that the newly appointed judge Abdul Gafur on his own introduced some criminal regulatory order (CRO) and also administrative orders without consulting lawyers.
The new court timing (9:30 am to 4:30 pm), rescheduled by the judge will multiply the sufferings of the litigant people coming from far-flung areas from different upazilas of the district, the lawyers told the press conference.
The Association also sent letters to the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice and the Law Minister with a request to withdraw the district judge and appoint a new one for Chittagong.
