Language Movement veteran MA Wadud's birthday Friday

Friday is the 89th birth anniversary of Language Movement veteran MA Wadud.

MA Wadud was born on Aug 1 in Rarirchar village in Chandpur.

He was one of the founding members of Awami Muslim League and was associated with the Daily Ittefaq since its inception.

He was a close friend of Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a founding member of Ganatantrik Juba League, East Pakistan Muslim Chhatra League and Kendriyo Kochi Kachar Mela.

From 1953-54 he was the general secretary of East Pakistan Chhatra League.

Wadud was arrested in 1948 and 1952 by the Pakistani government for his involvement in the Language Movement.
He was expelled by Dhaka University along with Bangabandhu for his involvements.
He was also a victim of political persecution because he refused to join the military government in 1978.
Wadud died on Aug 28, 1983.
He left two children. Awami League Joint General Secretary and former foreign minister Dipu Moni is his daughter.
His son, Jawadur Rahim Wadud Tipu is a diabetic foot surgeon.
