Language Movement hero National Professor Mustafa Nur-Ul Islam dies at 91

National Professor and Language Movement hero Mustafa Nur-Ul Islam has died aged 91.

The top academic passed away at his home in Dhaka around 9:30pm on Wednesday, according to the cultural affairs ministry.

Born in Bogura on May 1, 1927, the litterateur received the Ekushey Padak in 1981 and the highest civilian award of the nation, Swadhinata Padak, in 2010.

Graduating from the University of Calcutta in 1948, he did his post-graduation from the Dhaka University and PhD from London University.

Prof Mustafa Nur-Ul headed the Bangla department of the Jahangirnagar University and also taught at the Rajshahi University.
