“The projectile could not break through as the glass was bullet-proof and she was not injured,” he told journalists on Monday showing the ‘bullet mark’ after end of her campaign for the day.
“The impact on the outer layer of the glass was quite strong. The gun was fired from close range. Most likely from a 0.22-bore pistol,” the former army major general said.
BNP Vice Chairperson Selima Rahman was sitting on the side where the bullet was fired. Khaleda was seated on the other side.
The BNP chief’s Personal Assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas was seated beside the driver.
A glass of Khaleda’s Nissan SUV was also fractured from brickbats thrown during the attack.
Akbar showed the vehicle to journalists after Khaleda returned home around 10pm from United Hospital, where the injured had been admitted.
Tabith visits Khaleda
The BNP-backed mayor candidate of Dhaka North Tabith Awal visited the former prime minister at her residence around 10:45pm.
She was campaigning for Tabith in Karwan Bazar when the attack took place.
He was accompanied by his younger brother Tafsir Awal and Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal leader Jeba Khan.
Khaleda’s younger brother Shameem Eskander and his wife Kanij Fatima also visited her.
