Chittagong, Oct 10 (bdnews24.com)—A Chittagong court has sent Yasin Rahman Tito, son of KDS group chairman and Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber chief Khalilur Rahman, to prison after he surrendered to the court for the murder of an Indian citizen.
"Chittagong metropolitan sessions judge S M Majibur Rahman sent tito to court on Monday noon," public prosecutor Kamal Uddin told bdnews24.com.
Tito was a fugitive for the murder of Jibran Tayebi, a senior executive of a private shipping company, in front of a Chinese restaurant at the port-city's Dewanhat in 1999. Tayebi was the son of a former senior officer of West Bengal Police. His wife, Titli Nandini, filed the case.
"Recently, Tito appealed to the High Court for bail, and the court asked him to surrender at the lower court. He surrendered at the Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judges' Court on Monday," Kamal Uddin added.
In 2002, the Chittagong Metropolitan Session Judges' Court sentenced five out of eight charged for the murder to life terms. Three including Tito was let free.
However, the prosecution challenged the verdict at the High Court and Tito was sentenced to life on Mar 28, 2007. He had been absconding since then.
