Patuakhali, May 29 (bdnews24.com) - Joint forces conducted raids at two Patuakhali houses of former commerce minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury through early hours Tuesday.
RAB-8 Patuakhali camp commander Maj Osman told bdnews24.com the joint forces raided Altaf's Suraiya Bhaban at Sher-e-Bangla road of Patuakhali sadar.
Simultaneously another joint forces contingent raided his Kathhaltali village home under Mirzaganj upazila.
In the drive starting 1:00 am through 8:00 am, the raiders recovered two guns, 99 rounds ammunition, 933 pieces of sari and 160 lungis from the houses.
It could not be immediately confirmed whether the captured saris and lungis were misappropriated government relief goods.
Joint forces arrested the former BNP-Jamaat alliance minister early Tuesday from his Gulshan, Dhaka home.
The Suraiya drive yielded one shotgun, 46 rounds ammunition, 420 pieces of sari and 160 pieces of lungi.
On the other hand the Kathhaltali drive recovered one double barrelled gun, 53 rounds ammunition and 513 pieces of sari.
Altaf chowdhury's house staff Nasiruddin told bdnews24.com the recovered arms have legal documents.
Patuakhali sadar police station officer-in-charge Sheikh Delwar Hossain also admitted that the arms were legitimate and their papers were updated.
There was no seal or stamp of any kind on the saris or lungis, Delwar said.
