ILO assures Savar aid

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has assured Bangladesh of providing full support to the victims of the Savar tragedy.

ILO Deputy Director General Gilbert Houngbo promised the assistance during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Osmani Memorial Auditorium after a May Day discussion, Hasina’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said.

Gilbert, also the former Prime Minister of West African nation Togo, handed over a letter of ILO to the Prime Minister expressing condolences and sympathy to the workers and affected families.

Azad said the ILO official appreciated Bangladesh launching rescue efforts immediately after the building caved in on Apr 24.

Hasina said those responsible for the heavy loss of lives were facing justice.

Azad also quoted Hasina as speaking about her government’s measures to salvage each of the victims, providing them with proper medicare facilities and for their rehabilitation.

Minister for Labour and Employment Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju, State Minister Begum Munnujan Sufian were also present there.
