The bench of justices Naima Haider and Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman on Sunday issued a rule asking why the university's failure to hold elections to the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) for the last 26 years will not be declared illegal.
The vice-chancellor, proctor, registrar, treasurer and two others have been told to come up with explanations within four weeks.
The court's order came after hearing a petition filed by former DUCSU vice-president Sultan Md Mansur Ahmed, former general secretary Md Mostak Hussain and a DU student Zafrul Hasan Nadim.
