Hasina: cinemas require renovation

Dhaka, Apr 10 (bdnews24.com)—Prime minister Sheikh Hasina has asked cinema hall owners to renovate and modernise their halls to attract more customers.
The prime minister also stressed the need to make more childrens' films while speaking at the award ceremony of the National Film Awards-2008.
"The old theatre halls need to be renovated to ensure a healthy and safe environment so that people can watch films along with their families," she said.
Hasina asked film-makers to portray the traditional life of Bangladesh in theirs films.
Reflecting on the fact that the country's films were under threat from the satellite culture, she said, "We must patronise good films that reflect talent and intellect and technological advancement."
Hasina said initiatives will be taken by the government to establish a modern and complete film archives, film museum and a film institute.
In 2008, a total of 24 persons were given an award in 23 categories.
