A finance ministry official said Muhith is ‘very happy’ after getting the Independence Award for his contribution to the Liberation War.
Another reason behind his delight is that he has become a grandfather again.
Many of his colleagues also demanded a treat on his 82nd birthday on Jan 25, said the official, who preferred anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media about the matter.
“To top it all, he received the Independence Award from the prime minister on Mar 24,” he added.
Monday’s Cabinet meeting, chaired by Hasina, ran from 11am to 1:30pm.
The lunch from the Dhaka Club was served after the meeting was over.
A traditional Sylheti dish, mutton with Saatkora, was also put on their plates.
Muhith’s wife Syed Sabia Muhith oversaw preparations of the special dish at their Hare Road residence.
Bikrampur sweets were served as dessert.
Muhith’s son Shahed Muhith’s daughter Sophia Muhith was born on Feb 1. His younger son Samir Muhith lives in the US. He has a son and a daughter.
His only daughter Samina Muhith stays in Bangladesh.
