Chittagong, May 6 (BDNEWS) – Opposition Awami League alleged that change in the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP) was related with the upcoming election of the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC).
Referring to the removal of Hadis Uddin from the office of IGP within a month of his appointment AL leaders said the change in the office was purposeful and aimed at ensuring the win of the alliance candidate.
Addressing a crowed press conference at Chittagong press club Friday, AL leaders also blasted the government for the biased role of the state-run Bangladesh Betar and Bangladesh Television over the mayoral election.
It also expressed its annoyance over the role of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).
Al leader Tofail Ahmed told the press conference that IGP Hadis Uddin was removed just a day after he directed the police department for playing neutral roles in the election.
The Citizen Committee candidate and also AL leader ABM Mahiddun Chowdhury alleged, "allthough former CMP Commissioner Amzad Hossain has been removed, but a good number of his followers are still in the CMP whom he accused of working in favour of the alliance candidate."
Presidium Member Amir Hossain Amu and Suranjit sengupta, among others, spoke at the press conference.
