Grim scenes play out on Buriganga as death toll climbs to 32

Grim scenes unfolded through the dark as the death toll from the Buriganga river accident climbed to 32 early Friday. Three-year-old Barsha from Munshiganj was the latest to be rescued by a diver of the Fire Service and Civil Defence. A launch, Sourav-1, bound for Munshiganj from Sadarghat in Dhaka, sank in the river with about 150 passengers aboard—hit by a sand-laden vessel.

Dhaka, Feb 29 (bdnews24.com) –Grim scenes unfolded through the dark as the death toll from the Buriganga river accident climbed to 32 early Friday.
Three-year-old Barsha from Munshiganj was the latest to be rescued by a diver of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
A launch, Sourav-1, bound for Munshiganj from Sadarghat in Dhaka, sank in the river with about 150 passengers aboard—hit by a sand-laden vessel.
Salvage ship MV Rustom continued its operation through early Friday to tug the launch close to the Keraniganj shore of the river.
bdnews24.com's correspondent saw about 1,000 people wait on the Keraniganj side of the river as the tragedy played out.
As many as 40 journalists were aboard MV Rustom when the rescue operation shifted into gear.
