Dhaka, May 15 (BDNEWS) – Speakers at a memorial meeting in the capital on Sunday have urged the freedom fighters to come forward to preserve the memory of late general Jagjit Singh Aurora, rather than putting aside the hope that government would do it.
The speakers also urged the people to take initiative in this regard. They termed him a true friend of Bangladesh.
Muktijoddha Sangsad Kendriya Command Council organised the memorial meeting to reminisce general Aurora, a press release said.
Bangladesh will remember always the role of India, Indian people and Aurora in our liberation war, they said.
The Sangsad chairman Prof Abdul Ahad Chowdhury chaired the meeting while it was addressed, among others, by AL general secretary Abdul Jalil, presidium member Amir Hossain Amu, Indian deputy high commissioner Sarbajit Chakrabarti, JSD president Hasanul Haque Inu, Workers Party general secretary Bimal Biswas, Pankaj Bhattacharya, JSD leader ASM Abdur Rab, Sheikh Shahidul Islam of Jatiya Party, former ambassador Waliur Rahman and Dhaka University Teachers' Association president AAMS Arefin Siddique.
