Fazal Shahabuddin passes away

Poet and journalist from the ‘60s Fazal Shahabuddin passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 78.

Shahabuddin, the founding editor of the once popular weekly Bichitra, died at his home in Moddho Bashaboo.

A namaj-e-janaza will be held in front of the National Press Club after the Asr prayers, and another will be held at the Bangla Academy at 5pm. The poet will be laid to rest at the Banani graveyard.

Fazal Shahabuddin became popular in the 1960s as a poet. His first book was published in 1965 and the last in 2013.

He worked as the editor of weekly Shachitra Shandhani and for Daily Bangla.

His contributions to Bengali literature got him the Bangla Academy Literature Award in 1973 and a Ekushey Padak in 1988.
