Power Grid Bangladesh has proposed raising its average transmission charge by 60 percent, pushing it to Tk 0.49 per unit from the existing Tk 0.31, effective from Jun 1.

The power transmission authority placed its proposal at a public hearing held by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh auditorium on Wednesday.

The public hearing began on Tuesday on power tariff adjustments.

Stakeholders questioned the project selection, transmission losses, and high infrastructure costs of the Power Grid to highlight that the organisation is already wasting money.

By voltage level, the state-owned grid operator proposed raising the transmission charge for 230 kV lines to Tk 0.48 paisa per unit from the existing Tk 0.30.

For 132 kV lines, the proposed charge has been set at Tk 0.49 per unit, up from Tk 0.31.

The operator also proposed increasing the charge for 33 kV lines to Tk 0.49 paisa per unit from Tk 0.31.
