Two Indian nationals have again been arrested with Kush at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport, just two days after a similar arrest, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) says.

The DNC said in a media statement issued on Thursday that it had arrested the two Indian nationals—46-year-old Abdul Rahman and 45-year-old Mohammad Iqbal Ansari—with 5kg and 120g of Kush.

According to the statement, based on intelligence information, a team of DNC officials took position at the Green Channel in the arrival hall of Shahjalal Airport at 1pm on Thursday.

The two Indian nationals arrived at the Green Channel on a Thai Airways flight (TG-321) from Bangkok and were detained on suspicion.

A subsequent search of their luggages uncovered Kush that had been cleverly concealed underneath clothing.

Besides the drugs, officials seized two Indian passports, $500, 10,000 Indian rupees and three smartphones from them.

The DNC said both arrestees are residents of India’s West Bengal.

A case was filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act at Airport Police Station, lodged by DNC Airport Circle Inspector Shahriya Sharmin.

There have been at least three such incidents in the past week involving Indian nationals caught at the airport with Kush, sparking discussion over the sudden rise of this relatively uncommon drug.

Kush is an extremely potent and dangerous synthetic drug that doctors say can be around 100 times more harmful than ordinary cannabis or marijuana.

It is primarily produced by mixing harmful chemical substances, synthetic cannabinoids and synthetic opioids with the leaves of various plants.

On Monday, the DNC arrested two Indian nationals with more than 5kg of Kush.

Two days before that, on Saturday, the agency arrested an Indian national with 3kg of Kush.

Before that, on Aug 18, the DNC seized 4 kg and 180 grams of Kush. However, two Indian nationals managed to evade arrest in that incident.

In total, over the past 10 days, the DNC has arrested five Indian nationals with more than 17kg of Kush. Regular cases have been filed with the Airport Police Station in each incident.
