Justices Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury granted them a four-week interim bail following the couple’s plea on Sunday.

Shamarukh Mahjabin Shyama, wife of Tipu’s son Humayun Sultan Shadab, was brought dead to the Central Hospital on Thursday evening.

Shyama’s father Nurul Islam arrived from Jessore that night to file a case accusing Humayun Sultan and his parents.

Humayun was in Dhanmondi Police Station at that time and police arrested him as soon as the case was filed. He was produced in court on Sunday and sent to three days’ remand in police custody.

Meanwhile, his parents’ lawyer Fazlul Haque Khan Farid told the court there were no specific charges against them.

“Tipu Sultan was the one who informed her (Shyama) father after the incident. He would not have done it if she was murdered.”

Sultan is a member of the ‘Ainjibi Samiti’ and Dr Jesmin a professor, he told the hearing at the High Court while stressing that they should be granted bail.

Shyama, the only daughter of retired PWD engineer Nurul Islam, got married to Humayun, the eldest son of former Monirampur MP Sultan two years ago.

She finished her internship after doing MBBS from Holy Family Medical College and was enrolled at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for FCPS.

She lived with her husband in her in-law’s house at Dhanmondi.

Jesmin Ara, who teaches gynaecology at Holy Family Medical College, took her to Central Hospital on Thursday evening.

Her in-laws say they broke open the door to Shyama’s room and found her hanging from the iron grill of the bathroom window.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dhanmondi Zone) Rezaul Islam said they had come to know that the couple fought ‘over a phone call’ on Wednesday.

“The couple had an argument and each left for work the following day. Shyama returned home and told the maid, ‘I have work’, while she shut the door to her room.”

“She did not respond when she was being called for lunch at noon. They broke the room open and found her hanging by her Orna in the bathroom.”

The report of her autopsy conducted on Thursday night was yet to be delivered.

Meanwhile, Shyama’s classmate Dalia Nawshin claimed they saw wounds on her back.

The marks around her neck are not very deep even though its being alleged that she killed herself, she further added.
