A man has been killed after he was called over the phone to collect a loan repayment in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Aminul of Lakshmipur Sadar Model Police Station said that his body was recovered from a crop field next to his house in Purba Charmansa village of Tewariganj Union on Friday morning.
The victim Farhad Hossain, 30, was the son of Didar Hossain from the same village. He was an autorickshaw driver.
Farhad's wife Nargis Begum said that a man called her husband on his mobile phone around 2am on Friday and asked to meet him to repay the money he owed. Farhad went out and did not return. When his mobile phone was called in the morning, it turned out to be switched off.
She said, "In the morning, I received news that my husband's body was lying in a field a kilometre away from our house. He was killed over a loan. His eyes were gouged out."
Initially, the incident seems to be a murder, said SI Aminul. He added that police were working to recover the body and send it to the morgue.
Legal measures are under way over the incident, he said.
