EDAS picks Wazir Sattar, Toufique Imrose Khalidi to lead again

Wazir Sattar and Toufique Imrose Khalidi have been re-elected president and general secretary of English Department Alumni Society (EDAS) for another year.

Old friends relive good old days

The EDAS Executive Committee 2016 was announced in a reunion of former students of the Dhaka University’s Department of English at the TSC on Friday.

The society organises the annual get-together on the last Friday of January.

The English Department started its journey in 1921, the year the Dhaka University was established. EDAS was formed in 1986.

EDAS General Secretary Khalidi, a student of 1984-85 batch, is the Editor-in-Chief of bdnews24.com. He presented the annual report at the programme.

The organisation’s President Sattar, a communications specialist, graduated in 1973. He also spoke on the occasion.

Former Bangla Academy director poet Nurul Huda, corporate executive Junaidul Haque and businessman Ishtiaq Majid are the vice-presidents on the new committee.

Commerce Secretary Hedayetullah Al Mamun and RAB Director General Benazir Ahmed are the joint general secretaries.

English Department's current Chairperson Prof Rubina Khan has been made Treasurer on the 25-member committee as per the EDAS' charter.

The members are advertising entrepreneur Ramendu Majumder, retired diplomat Ambassador Waliur Rahman, businessman Syed Sadaquat Hossain, Information Secretary Mortaza Ahmed, businessman Zafrul Karim, journalist Syed Badrul Ahsan, education ministry’s Joint Secretary Md Aminul Islam Khan, the department’s Prof Dr Nevin Farida, Director of the Centre for Language Studies at the University of Liberal Arts ATM Sajedul Haque, corporate executive Shahinul Huda Jewel, education ministry official Abdur Razzak Mian, Additional Commissioner, Taxes, Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, railways ministry Deputy Secretary Abdus Samad Al Azad, SAARC Chamber Women Entrepreneur Council Vice Chair Sabera Ahmed Koli, corporate executive Akib Javed, corporate executive Raisul Hasan Evan, and teacher Nusrat Gulzar.
