Renowned gynaecologist TA Chowdhury dies at 87

He passed away at his home in the afternoon

TA Chowdhury, a leading gynaecologist of the subcontinent, has passed away.

He died at his home on Sunday afternoon at the age of 87.

Bangladesh Diabetic Association President and National Professor AK Azad Khan told bdnews24.com, “TA Chowdhury passed away at his home in the afternoon. He was quite elderly and suffered a cardiac arrest. He remained with BIRDEM (Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders) until his last days.”

Born in 1937, AHM Touhidul Anowar Chowdhury earned his MBBS from Dhaka Medical College in 1960.

He later obtained a Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons, or FRCS, in Edinburgh.

The specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology received the Independence Award in 2017.
