EC Deputy Secretary Samsul Alam conveyed the commission’s decision to home ministry’s senior secretary and inspector general of police on Thursday in a letter.
EC also issued order to withdraw Mir Rakibul Haque and Md Asaduzzaman, Officers-in-Charge of Kapasia and Sripur Police stations respectively.
SP Rashid had made headlines a few years ago for beating up BNP's former chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque during a demonstration in front of the Parliament building.
He is currently the general secretary of Police Service Association.
EC made the decision after a candidate in union council elections was hacked to death at Sreepur on Wednesday.
The EC ordered the withdrawal of the police officials to ensure fair polls in Gazipur, the letter said.
