The International Crimes Tribunal has ordered protection for a witness in a case connected to the killing of six people in Chankharpool during the July Uprising.

The order was issued on Thursday, following a prosecution petition.

Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said that two days earlier, the witness had testified before the tribunal in the crimes against humanity case.

On the day of their testimony, certain groups allegedly carried out activities deemed inappropriate, disrespectful, and threatening to the witness’s safety, which included banners and processions against the testifier.

The witness provided the prosecution with photos and videos of these incidents.

“In response, we applied for witness protection. The application was heard today. The tribunal also spoke directly to the witness and reviewed the photos and videos. Following the hearing, the tribunal issued an order to ensure the witness’s safety,” Tamim said.

According to the order, the chief of the relevant police station and the head of the witness’s workplace have been instructed to guarantee their security.

The order also says that any derogatory posters or banners targeting the witness should be promptly removed.
