A husband and wife have been killed in a crash involving a car and motorcycle on the same road in the Bogura Sadar Upazila where seven day labourers lost their lives only hours ago.
The couple’s 8-year-old grandson has also been injured in the accident.
The accident occurred near the Erulia Airport on the Bogra-Naogaon regional road in the Upazila around 4:30pm on Friday, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Mostafizur Rahman of Bogra Sadar Police Station.
The dead have been identified as businessman Babul Hasan, 55, and his wife Jasmine Bibi, 47, from Atapara of Bogura city. The injured, Zulkar Nain, is the son of their eldest son Rezaul Karim Reza.
Police said that Babul was on his way to his eldest son's house in Kahalu Upazila on a motorcycle with his wife and grandson. On the way, the motorcycle collided with an oncoming car.
Babul died on the spot. The injured Jasmine and Zulkar were admitted to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Jasmine died while undergoing treatment there.
Witness Amjad Hossain Mandal said that the motorcycle was travelling on the left edge of the road, but the car travelling in the opposite direction still hit it.
SI Mostafizur said police went to the scene after it was reported on the national emergency service 999. The two bodies have been sent to the morgue of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. The two vehicles involved in the accident are in police custody.
Seven daily wage workers were killed in a bus accident in Erulia of the same road early on Thursday morning.
