Results of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exam re-scrutiny may be published on Sept 10, with more than 400,000 candidates awaiting the outcome.

The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee has proposed the date to the education ministry, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dhaka Chairman Syed Aktaruzzaman said on Thursday.

He said the date would be finalised after the ministry approves the proposal.

A total of 402,051 candidates applied for a review after failing to secure the results they had expected, seeking reassessment of 1.06 million answer scripts.

Of these, 231,471 scripts have practical components, bringing the total number of written and practical scripts under review to 1.29 million.

The SSC and equivalent results were published on Aug 10, with an average pass rate of 62.25 percent, the lowest in 19 years. A total of 690,608 candidates failed.

Applications for re-scrutiny were accepted from Aug 11 to Aug 17 through a website developed under the ministry’s Integrated Education Information Management System (IEIIMS) project.

Candidates paid Tk 150 for each paper.

Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon said on the day the results were released that candidates would, for the first time, have the option of having answer scripts re-evaluated.

Previously, re-scrutiny only involved recounting marks under the Public Examination (Offences) Act 1980, without re-evaluating answers.

Parliament passed the Public Examinations (Offences) (Amendment) Bill 2026 on Jul 7, and it was gazetted on Jul 9.

Under the amended law, an examiner who over-assesses or under-assesses an answer script in a public examination can face up to two years in prison, a fine or both.

A third examiner must determine whether over- or under-assessment occurred.
