Dhaka, July 8 (BDNEWS) – The Dhaka Zoo will bring a pair of panther from Nepal in exchange of a pair of lions.
The Dhaka Zoo authorities have already completed the exchange formalities but still it has not got the nod from the Nepalese government.
Dhaka Zoo curator Mafizur Rahman told BDNEWS that once Nepal Zoo authorities obtain the permission from the forest department, Bangladesh will hand over the lions. The Nepalese authorities have assured that it would get the permission very soon.
At present 22 lions of Asian species are in the Dhaka Zoo while the number of Royal Bengal tiger is 14.
As none of the zoos in Bangladesh has panther, the initiative has been taken to import the two animals from Nepal. Recently, Nepal has given a pair of panther to a Pakistani Zoo. The panthers have already adapted themselves with the environment of Pakistan.
When Bangladesh contacted for the panthers, the Nepalese authorities agreed to give a pair of the animal of cat family to Bangladesh. And the Dhaka Zoo has already obtained the permission of the forest department for importing the animals.
The curator said, Nepal would bear all expenses of transporting the animals from the two countries.
