Police have recovered the bodies of a young mother and her 4-year-old daughter, who had been missing for the last few days, in Bandarban town.
Their bodies were found on Thursday afternoon, said Bandarban Sadar Circle Police chief Manna Dey.
The mother was identified as Ngosanu Marma, 22, but the name of the child had yet to be confirmed. They were residents of the Sadar Upazila.
“Upon recovering the bodies, they were sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for inquest reports and postmortem examination,” the police officer said.
“We are speaking to their family and are trying to collect information and video footage. We will be able to understand the situation after we gather it.
Manna said police are investigating the deaths.
“Locals have not cited any specific reason for the deaths. In fact, none of the information they provided is reliable,” he added. “We will need time for our investigation. Then we will know.”
Local union council member Ajit Kanti Tanchangya said it was not clear whether the mother-daughter duo had jumped off a hill to their death.
“But they were unaccounted for despite searches for the last couple of days,” he said.
The woman married a man from the Tanchangya community four years ago, said local resident Chaiugya Marma.
“We don’t even know what really happened.”
