The committee was formed on Thursday with Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Sheikh Mohammad Maruf Hasan as the convener and the additional superintendent of police in Narayanganj as the member secretary.

Siddique, husband of environmental lawyer Rizwana Hasan, and the chief officer of a garment firm in Narayanganj, was abducted on Wednesday at Bhuigarh while travelling by car to Dhaka from Narayanganj.

Maruf Hasan told bdnews24.com the committee would aid the investigating officer in all matters.

“One of the members will be given the charge of briefing the media,” he said.

The other members of the committee are DMP Joint Comissioner Monirul Islam, RAB-3 Director Maj Sadiqur Rahman and Additional Superintendent of Police Abdul Mannan from the police HQ.

On Wednesday, the police formed a 12-member investigation team to probe the crime.

Siddique is in charge of a garments factory, owned by his childhood friend and State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid Bipu. The factory had been shut for some time before Siddique took charge in February and reopened it.

Rizwana Hasan, the executive director of Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association, held a press conference earlier in the day and asked the authorities to include in their probe people behind the businesses and projects that had suffered financially because of her activism.
