Unfinished Durga idol vandalised at temple in Panchagarh overnight

An idol being prepared for Sharadiya Durga Puja has been vandalised in Panchagarh’s Debiganj Upazila.

Debiganj Police chief Md Musa Mia said the idol at Galandhi Chourangi Durga Temple in Debiduba Union was vandalised in the wee hours of Saturday.

Police visited the site after receiving the report.

Local resident Dujay Chandra Manik said unknown people broke the buffalo and peacock parts of the unfinished idol under cover of darkness and left them there.

News of the incident caused a stir in the area.

Temple General Secretary Radhanath Barman filed a case with Debiganj Police.

Officer Musa said, “The priest and artisans left after finishing the idol-making work. Taking advantage of no one being at the pavilion after midnight, someone vandalised two parts of the idol. The incident is being investigated, including checking CCTV footage from the pavilion area.”
