Police say a van driver was killed in Rajshahi after a passenger struck him with a brick for not stopping quickly enough when signalled.
Locals caught the suspect, 55-year-old Mujibur Rahman, and handed him over to the police after a mob beating.
The incident took place around 8:30am in front of the Pathak Club in Belgachi Purbapara in Mohanpur Upazila, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Mudasser Hossain Khan of Mohanpur Police Station.
The deceased, 44-year-old Alam Ali, was a resident of Belgachi village.
According to police and witnesses, Mujibur had signalled Alam to stop his moving van.
When Alam pulled over a short distance ahead instead of stopping exactly where indicated, Mujibur became enraged.
The ensuing altercation turned violent when Mujibur picked up a brick and struck Alam repeatedly on the back of the head. Alam collapsed on the spot.
Local residents rushed him to the Mohanpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Following the attack, the community detained Mujibur at the local Pathak Club.
Tensions escalated when police arrived to take him into custody, leading the agitated crowd to beat the suspect.
SI Mudasser noted that two policemen sustained minor injuries while trying to shield Mujibar from the mob.
Additional police forces were deployed to bring the situation under control.
Mujibar has since been taken into police custody.
