Md Khurshed Alam has been assigned to handle the daily operations of the foreign ministry following the termination of Masud Bin Momen's contract.
The retired rear admiral Alam, currently head of the Maritime Affairs Unit of the foreign ministry, has been entrusted with the daily responsibilities of the foreign secretary.
Alam will perform "daily or urgent governmental activities" as the foreign secretary "until further notice," the ministry said in an office order on Monday.
The move comes after Momen relinquished his position on Sept 2, 2024.
Alam has previously stepped in as the acting foreign secretary on several occasions when the foreign secretary was unavailable.
