Dhaka, June 9 (bdnews24.com) — The finance minister has proposed to withdraw the income tax exemption being enjoyed by the prime minister, ministers and the judges.
Presenting the budget proposals for 2011-12 fiscal on Thursday, A M A Muhith said, "Now the salaries of the prime minister, speaker, cabinet members and parliamentarians are not income tax-free. Questions have been raised on the logic behind the facility."
"The provision violates the norm of uniform tax rate for government employees. So I propose to withdraw tax exemption allowed to them to implement law in this regard impartially," he added.
