BRTA closes three bus counters for extra fare at Sayedabad

A mobile court of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority has closed ticket counters of three companies at Sayedabad Bus Terminal for charging extra fare for Eid-ul-Fitr journey.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader briefed the media about the drive on Wednesday after visiting the terminal.

The three transport companies are Himachal Paribahan, Ekushey Paribahan and Royal Paribahan.

Executive Magistrate Muhammad Abdur Rahim Sujon headed the drive.

Quader said several cells were monitoring the ticket counters to stop the companies from charging extra fare.

“There will be tougher punishment if necessary,” he said.

The minister reiterated his remark there would be traffic congestion due to breakdown unfit vehicles, not because of the condition of highways during the Eid holidays.

He cautioned the drivers against driving on wrong lanes, speeding and speaking on the phone while driving.

Quader also asked their employers to not make them work too many extra hours for more profit.
